Our Difference

Why Choose School of Chess

What sets this academy apart — credentials, lineage, structure, and a track record of measurable student progress.

FIDE National Instructor

T. Muthukumar holds the FIDE National Instructor title — a formal FIDE certification of coaching competence, not a self-designation.

Chess Gurukul since 2016

Coaching with Chess Gurukul — R.B. Ramesh's academy, one of India's most respected chess training institutions — since 2016.

Structured curriculum

Every session follows a purposeful, progressive plan — not ad-hoc puzzles. Each lesson builds deliberately on the last.

Personalized feedback

Individual assessment for every student. Coaching adapts to each student's pace, playing style, and goals — not a one-size approach.

Our Methodology

Elite Training Philosophy

Every session at School of Chess follows a proven, structured methodology designed to build real chess strength — not just rating points.

01

Calculation Training

Systematic tactical exercises to improve accuracy, depth of analysis, and the ability to calculate complex variations under time pressure.

02

Visualization Improvement

Board blindfold exercises and pattern recognition drills to build the ability to see several moves ahead without moving pieces.

03

Positional Understanding

Learning to evaluate imbalances — pawn structures, piece activity, king safety — and convert positional advantages cleanly.

04

Guess the Move Practice

Studying grandmaster games move by move to build intuition, improve pattern recognition, and understand master-level thinking.

05

Tournament Discipline

Preparing mentally and physically for competitive play — clock management, psychological resilience, and consistent decision-making.

06

Practical Decision-Making

Training students to make good decisions in complex positions — balancing calculation, intuition, and risk assessment effectively.

07

Endgame Studies

Mastering fundamental and complex endgames — the phase where technical precision separates good players from great ones.

08

Structured Thinking Process

Building a reliable, repeatable thought process for every move — reducing blunders and improving consistency across all game phases.

"When my child first joined School of Chess, he was a complete beginner. Master Muthukumar patiently built his foundation, teaching not just the rules but the deeper strategies, tactics, and mindset required to grow as a chess player. Step by step, his confidence grew. Within months, his progress was remarkable — from learning basic openings to confidently handling complex middle-game positions and endgame techniques. This culminated in him winning the Under-10 Tournament. It's not just an academy — it's a place where beginners become champions."

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents and students want to know before joining School of Chess.

“Chess skill is trainable, not transferable. No coach can hand a student strength — it is built through consistent daily practice with the correct methods. My job is to provide the structure; the student’s growth does the rest.”
